Interested in Dr Hoenig under eye f/g method. Anybody know what is the recovery time like? Is there a lot of swelling with his method.

Is this a one time surgery ..It seems like certain doctors who do f/g believe in the layering method while others the one time approach..

Just curious regarding recovery cause dont want to be out of work for a month or so...

thanks in advance.

First, let me say that I have first hand knowledge since I'm Dr. Hoenig's wife...
Recovery is usually about 2 weeks, with most of the swelling gone in about 10 days for most people. Some stay swollen longer, and some residual swelling may be perceptible for several more weeks, although you may be the only one who notices. 2 weeks is usually a good amount of time to take off from work, unless you are in the "public eye" or in front of the camera. If you have an important event, you'll want 6 weeks before the special day just to be extra safe.

For fat grafting around the eyes, 90% or more of patients need only one treatment. The other 5 to 10 % may need a second treatment.
If you have any more questions, you might want to email info@drhoenig.com.
Thank you,
Danya

I agree, if a doctor knows what they are doing, they can complete fat grafting in 1-2 sessions, the most three sessions. This going every other month is ridiculous. You might as well be getting collagen or restylane injections.

Can f/g be reversed if you do not like the final results? It was placed in the wrong area and I look too full - especially the lower cheeks. I'm desperate!

steroid injections cause fat atrophy (shrinkage), so technicallly, fat grafting can be "reversed" with steroid injections. the steroid that is commonly used is triamcinalone (trade name kenalog).

this has to be done very, very carefully, though because too much medication, or medication placed into "normal" tissue will also cause shrinkage of areas that you dont want to reduce.

after an injection, fat may begin to disappear within a few days but can continue on for several months. therefore treatments should not be done more than 2 to 3 months apart.

How long does f/g usually last under the eyes? If you're younger (late 20s) does it hold better? How many treatments would you need to make it stay longer? Thanks

The amount of time the fat lasts under the eyes is highly dependent on the surgeon's technique. For some, it lasts several months, for others 7 or 8 years or more.

Out of all the places that fat is injected into the face, the under eye area seems to have the longest duration of results. The lips has the quickest reabsorption due to the constant muscle contration and movement.

I dont know of any studies done to determine what factor age plays in fat transfer. As far as I know, there is no correlation between age and durability.

Some doctors do the fat grafting in one session. Others prefer to do several treatments over a period of weeks or months. I dont know of any definitive studies that show that one method is better than the other. Just depends on the surgeon's preference, and your willingness to have multiple treatments.

Thanks. My PS told me that the under eye area lasts the LEAST. ?? He also doesn't like doing it because of lumping problems. SO.....I decided to see another PS in November. I'd rather have someone who is comfortable doing the under eye area. Alot of patients are happy with it, so I just hope it works for me. Thanks for the info!
