I had a consultation w a ps that wanted to schedule me for the "new way" of doing both upper and lower eye lid lifts w incisions following close to lash lines. The second consultation w a different PS was real surprised and said this was a very risky procedure. I am wanting info on this and wondering what the benefits/risks/differences are compared to classical procedure. thanks

i've never heard of an upper lid bleph along the lash line, although lower lid surgery is commonly performed this way. within the last 5 years or so, though, lower lid surgery is typically performed from inside the eyelid because there is a higher incidence of complications (and visible scarring) with the external incision.
if you have any info about the upper lid surgery along the lashes, please let me know.

thanks,
danya

Hi Danya,

I thought I would ask you as this is what a PS told me in my first consult. I didn't know what he meant of the new way vs old way of doing eye lids. What little I could find on line said very few docs offered this and there were big complications, ie: appearance of a size dif in the two eyes, loss of lashes, complications of lid not completely closing, possible damage to musculature. I will keep an eye on your board to see if new info is posted. Thanks

i checked with a prominent oculoplastic surgeon. he hasn't heard of this technique either and said its very risky to operate just above the upper lash line due to the risk of eyelid retraction. (that's when the eyelid pulls up).
if you have a chance to ask the doctor who recommended it, if he has any literature or publications on it, i'd be interested to read them.
thanks,
danya
