okay, i'm 19 years old and i'm thinking about liposuckioning my chest. No matter what i do, how much i work out, i cant seem to get rid of my "man boobs" it sort of runs in the family, but i hate it with every fiber in my body. Question is, should i get it done. and how much would this cost me? It does bother me...it bothers me alot, but is it worth all this?

Lipo can work when all else fails. But if you recountour your chest with lipo and later on loose an appreciable amount of body fat (diet, illness, etc.) you may have some unevenness in the contour of your pecs. This can be corrected by adding back in a little fat if needed - so it's not a big deal.

Also, go to a doc who knows his stuff about male chest lipo and contouring. A lot of docs will over lipo and the guy winds up looking like a chick-chest. Not pretty. If the doc has done fewer than 20 or 30 of these procedures ON MEN (women don't count because of the tissue differences) they are NOT someone you want working on you!

The fee for this kind of surgery runs between $2000 and $3000 depending on where the doc is (the coasts are usually more expensive) and how well known he or she is. The big "name" docs won't usually even bother and will refer you to someone else. So DO NOT expect to get Garth Fisher to do it at any price! Or Aston in NYC. Or any of the other very costly and very famous crop of big name physicians. They'd rather be using the hours in the OR doing a full facelift which they get $50k for than working on your chest.

If you're in a large metro area, there are usually gay newspapers and magazines that cary advertising aimed at the Gay community. The docs who advertise there are generaly quite used to working on men. It's one quick way to get a doc who is accomplished at working on the male body and/or face.

Best of luck..

PS: I had this surgery myself when I was about 25. It was overdone and had to be fixed when I got into working out later on in life. But this will do for your chest what no amount of bench presses ever will - if and ONLY IF you need it. BTW: often times if the reason for it is gynocomastia (literally male breasts) your health carrier will pay for some (and sometimes all) of the fees. ASK your doctor for his advice and whether you'll be covered by your carrier...

You can get Mesotherapy for about half the cost of Lipo and with no down time and minimal to no pain. It takes longer, maybe 2 months but recovering from Lipo is really tough--I know I had it! Plus there is risk when you go under general anesthesia. I'd use Lipo when all else fails.

Yes - you're right of course. Lipo is painful. If a small area is treated (like a guys chest) it's not terribly painful. If you start doing larger areas it gets more painful and the recovery time is extended by a LOT

I know so little about Mesotherapy that I cannot comment on it. If it works, then wehre do I sign up? I was getting ready to ahve a skin only tummy tuck and I'd be interested if Mesotherapy would do approximatly the same thing with the sacars!

Just a thought..

Mesotherapy can remove small amounts of fat, up to 20 lbs. Do a search on yahoo to find a nurse or doctor who does it. You should be able to get a free consultation.

As for your excess skin, mesotherapy will not help much if at all. You'll need to get surgery to remove it.

I wanna say thanks for all the advice, it does mean a lot to me. I know i do have gynoclamstia, and i'm going to look into that Mesotherapy, i've seen a couple shows on MTV and TLC about gynoclamstia, i dont know, i hate it, i cant even take off my shirt out side of my bathroom, i'm afraid to even have intercourse with a girl/ girl friend. I cant live a life like this.

Mesotherapy is akin to "magic wrinkle erasers" sold at the beauty counters. Trust me, nothing short of surgery will get you the result you want. In all likelihood, liposuction will get the desired result, without a significant scar.

I should add that mesotherapy is not an FDA approved theray, nor is it supported by any type of peer-reviewed literature. Good luck, with whatever you choose!

I advised you to consult your doctor first before making any final decision.

I think you shouldnt take risk... you are just 19!! you could keep on exercising and if when you turn 22 or more you could think of lipo... good luck with that and think about it very well...

What you have is commonly referred to as gynecomastia. Which is an enlargement of the mammory glans/tissue. It can be caused my numerous things, such as genetics, medications, weight gain, thyroid, etc. It can be easily treated by a PS by liposuction. Liposuction is a very safe procedure IF you find a qualified and experiences PS!!!! I said PS not a cosmetic surgeon. If they say they are just a cosmetic surgeon I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND them.. Find a bd certified PS.. there is also many organiztions such as plasticsurgery.org and surgery.org. They have high standards to become members. Just go to and go to the find a surgeon portion and type in what city you would like.
I would first research types of liposuction, risks, etc. before you go to the consultation, and if you are unsure about anythin ASK.. Thats what they are there for. Check and see how many liposuction procedures they do, how many gynecomastia pt's they have done, and how often they perform it. They may have done 100 pt's 5-10 years ago, but things have changed since then. So find someone who has done several and dones them often for the best outcome.
If you have excess skin then lipsuction alone may not totally take care of it. If not then they can excise some of the skin.

i don't suggest this it is painful and after you might get complications...don't go for it unless you have other options ...talk to your doctor about it he might have other non-surgical options..
