My husband had Blepharoplasty we weeks ago (October 27, 2003) along with neck and nose work. Everything healed wonderfully and quickly. However under his eyes is swelling that has not diminised since removing the bandages. It is very abrubt swelling and we were wondering if anyone has had or seen this and is it normal. Also, if it is normal, how long can it last?

Thanks so much!

hi nancy,
your husband is developing lower eyelid retraction with scleral show. this means that his lower lids are pulling down and the whites of his eyes are showing more than he should.
this is caused by too much skin being removed, swelling, and/or scar tissue formation.
he may be able to improve the situation by doing some exercises on his lower eyelids to stretch the skin. to do this, he should place his fingertips just under the lashes and press in and up. he should do this whenever he thinks about it. the more, the better.
he should also ask his doctor about injecting a very dilute concentration of steroid solution to reduce inflammation and prevent further scar contraction.
please keep me updated, and let me know if you or your husband have any more questions. (by the way, if you register for the message boards, you can choose to be notified by email whenever someone replies to your post).
