Hi, I am 9 weeks post of from having a facelift, endo browlift and lower bleph. My recovery is going fairly well with the exception of a few things. I have lumpiness behind my ears. I've been massaging it and it gets very tender after I do it. My PS said that it will flatten out but could take as long as 4 months. He also said that I have absorbable stitches back there and that is what causes the lumps. Has anyone else experienced this and does it indeed flatten out? It looks terrible and I have to keep it hidden with my hair.

Hi Lilly Belle,
Welcome to BeautySurg.
Is the lumpiness behind your ear from skin bunching together, from scarring, or is it beneath the skin and the surface of the skin is smooth? The difference will determine what's causing it, and then how best to speed up the recovery, if possible.
For skin gathering, it's just a matter of time til the skin relaxes and it smoothes out.
If lumpiness is limited to the incision, then massage with your fingertips several times a day, try topical scar treatments like Mederma (available in our skinstore), or your doctor can inject steroids that will help.
If the lumpiness is deeper, then it may be the sutures (as your surgeon suggested, deeper scar tissue or swelling. All of these will resolve on their own.
So, the bottom line is even if you do nothing, the lumpiness will go away within a matter of months.
Hang in there!

Actually the lumps are on the skin surface, like folds. I have been massaging them for just the last few days with Vitimin E and already notice a change. So I feel much better about it today. It was very tender when I first started massaging, but it's gotten much more tolerable. Thanks again.
