Eyebrows are one of the most important
defining characteristics of the face. Often you don't
even realize the full impact that eyebrows make until
you see a person without them. With the newest techniques
available, it is now possible to restore natural looking
eyebrows that will last a lifetime.
Eyebrow hair loss can occur for several reasons in women and men. Physical
trauma such as burns or cuts, medical treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation
therapy, excessive plucking, and even menopause, can all contribute to eyebrow
hair loss. In the past some people opted for eyebrow tattoos to recreate lost
eyebrow hair, but tattoos can be obvious and look unnatural. There is no better
replacement for eyebrow hair than hair itself! (And, if you already have eyebrow
tattoos, hair transplants can be implanted over eyebrow tattoos to re-create
natural looking eyebrows.)

The process of transplanting eyebrows involves taking a small strip of hair
from the back of the head behind the ear. This hair
is finer than the hair on the rest of the scalp, and
most closely resembles the character of eyebrow hair.
The strip of hair is then dissected into individual
hairs. With an artistic eye, and keen attention paid
to the individuals facial characteristics, the boundaries
of the new eyebrows are drawn in so that the patient
can see the shape of their new eyebrows. Small holes
are made with a needle tip, and the eyebrow hairs are
carefully placed. The eyebrow hair is placed in the
same direction as native eyebrow hair to create a natural
look. The entire procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours
to perform, and is done entirely under local anesthetic.
Tylenol is usually adequate for any discomfort after
the procedure. Complications are unusual, the commonest
being a small area of purplish discoloration under the
eyelids for a few days. For 4-5 days after the procedure
there are tiny scabs which appear like dots of sand
on the skin. These then fall off, and approximately
2-3 months later the new eyebrow hair begins to grow
in. Once the new eyebrow hair grows in, it is completely
indistinguishable from native eyebrow hair and can be
treated in exactly the same ways. The new eyebrow hair
will require regular trimming, as it will continue to
grow like hair on the scalp.
