Repeated muscle contractions from
squinting and squeezing the eyes and eyebrows, combined
with sun exposure and skin damage can lead to drooping
of the forehead, upper eyelid fullness, and lines on
the forehead and between the eyebrows. (In some people,
low brow position is inherited, and is not dependent
on aging or muscle contraction.)
It is important to note that often
times, upper eyelid fullness can mistakenly be treated
by removing eyelid skin (blepharoplasty),
when the real problem is actually caused by low eyebrows.
A browllift or forehead lift repositions
the eyebrows and smoothes the forehead to address one
of the very first signs of aging, lengthening of the
forehead and drooping of the eyebrows. By raising the
eyebrows, upper eyelid fullness is also reduced or eliminated.
The result is a more youthful and
rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids
and a softening of lines in the forehead and between
the eyes. A brow lift can turn a tired, angry, or sad
appearance into a rested, pleasant, and happy one.
While there are many different
techniques to accomplish an eyebrow lift, the goal
remains constant. The ideal brow for a woman is high,
arched, and just above the brow bone. In men the ideal
brow is not as high, flatter, and is at the level of
the brow bone.
In some very extreme cases, excessively
low eyebrows can impair visual fields, and occasionally
insurance will help to cover some of the costs. Usually,
however, browlift or forehead lift surgery is considered
cosmetic in nature, and insurance does not apply.
