Naturally, as you begin to consider enhancing your appearance
you will find yourself thinking and talking about your
desired improvements more and more.
It's a good idea to talk to your friends, family members,
or others who have had cosmetic surgery, or have witnessed
many results of cosmetic surgery (such as your hair
stylist), and ask their opinion of various doctors.
If you don't know of anyone who has had plastic surgery,
don't feel comfortable discussing your thoughts of having
cosmetic surgery openly, or just want additional input,
you can participate in an online message
board for some
anonymous, candid opinions.
Once you're a little farther along in the process and
have had a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon, you
can also ask to speak with some of his or her patients
who are willing to share their experiences. Of course,
keep in mind that the doctors will likely direct you
toward extremely satisfied patients. When you do find
some cosmetic surgery veterans, it's a good idea to
ask some of the following questions:
Are you happy with the results of your procedure(s)?
Were the results what you expected?
What did you like most about your doctor?
If you could change one thing about your surgeon, what
would it be?
Why did you ultimately decide on that particular doctor?
Did you feel that he/she was concerned with your care
and listened to you?
If you had a problem or complication, how was it handled?
How did the cost compare to other surgeons with whom
you consulted?
What was the best and worst part of your experience?
If you had to do it over again, would you choose the
same doctor?
What other doctors did you consult with, and why didn't
you choose them?
