Following is a sampling of a few of the more popular
organizations that can assist you in finding a qualified
doctor in your area, and brief descriptions of their
members and membership requirements, in their own words.

ASAPS
- The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
ASAPS members "concentrate their practices in performing
cosmetic plastic surgery of the face and the entire
body, and only about one-quarter of all American Board
of Plastic Surgery certified surgeons have been accepted
into ASAPS membership. ASAPS members must first be certified
by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and have been
in practice for at least 3 years." (Quotation from

AAFPRS
- American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery
AAFPRS members focus their practice primarily on plastic
surgery of the face and neck. They are first board certified
by the American Board of Medical Specialties in a field
related to head and neck surgery, such as otolaryngology
(ear, nose and throat), ophthalmology (eye), or general
plastic surgery, and have been in practice for at least
a year before being accepted into the AAFPRS.
ASOPRS
- American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgeons
An ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon is
an ophthalmologist (medical doctor and eye surgeon)
who has completed additional training in plastic surgery
as it relates to the eyes and their surrounding structures.
ASOPRS members are first certified by the American Board
of Ophthalmology and complete an ASOPRS-sponsored fellowship
and examination before being accepted into the society.
ASDS
- American Society of Dermatologic Surgery
ASDS members are first certified by the American Board
of Dermatology. In addition to skin cancer treatments,
many ASDS members perform laser skin surgery, botox,
chemical peels, vein treatments, and liposuction, among
other procedures.
AACS
- American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery
AACS members come from various backgrounds, but are
all board-certified in an original surgical specialty
recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
They have completed an AACS approved fellowship, passed
an examination, and have been performing cosmetic surgery
for at least 5 years. They must have completed at least
1000 cosmetic procedures, and continue to perform 200
procedures per year to remain an active member.
AAOMS
- American Academy of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
AAOMS members are dentists specializing in surgery of
the mouth, face and jaws. They are board-certified by
the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
and are members of the American Dental Association.
AAOMS members commonly perform jaw and chin surgery,
in addition to other facial surgery such as facelifts
and nose surgery.
ISHRS
- International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery
ISHRS members are physicians and surgeons with a particular
interest in hair restoration and scalp surgery. They
come from varied medical disciplines such as dermatology,
plastic surgery, general surgery, facial plastic surgery,
and oculoplastic surgery.
ISRS - International
Society of Refractive Surgery
ISRS members are ophthalmologist (eye doctors) that
devote all or part of their practice to correction of
eyesight through surgery, known as refractive surgery.
Doctors that belong to the ISRS perform LASIK and vision
correction surgery.
