Professional Organizations
Following is a sampling of a few of the more popular organizations that can assist you in finding a qualified doctor in your area, and brief descriptions of their members and membership requirements, in their own words. (A more complete list of organizations can be found in the resources section.)

Of course, the physician locator on BeautySurg.com is the most natural place for you to begin your professional search.

ASAPS - The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
ASAPS members "concentrate their practices in performing cosmetic plastic surgery of the face and the entire body, and only about one-quarter of all American Board of Plastic Surgery certified surgeons have been accepted into ASAPS membership. ASAPS members must first be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and have been in practice for at least 3 years." (Quotation from ASAPS website)

AAFPRS - American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
AAFPRS members focus their practice primarily on plastic surgery of the face and neck. They are first board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in a field related to head and neck surgery, such as otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), ophthalmology (eye), or general plastic surgery, and have been in practice for at least a year before being accepted into the AAFPRS.

ASOPRS - American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons
An ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon is an ophthalmologist (medical doctor and eye surgeon) who has completed additional training in plastic surgery as it relates to the eyes and their surrounding structures. ASOPRS members are first certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and complete an ASOPRS-sponsored fellowship and examination before being accepted into the society.

ASDS - American Society of Dermatologic Surgery
ASDS members are first certified by the American Board of Dermatology. In addition to skin cancer treatments, many ASDS members perform laser skin surgery, botox, chemical peels, vein treatments, and liposuction, among other procedures.

AACS - American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery
AACS members come from various backgrounds, but are all board-certified in an original surgical specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. They have completed an AACS approved fellowship, passed an examination, and have been performing cosmetic surgery for at least 5 years. They must have completed at least 1000 cosmetic procedures, and continue to perform 200 procedures per year to remain an active member.

AAOMS - American Academy of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
AAOMS members are dentists specializing in surgery of the mouth, face and jaws. They are board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and are members of the American Dental Association. AAOMS members commonly perform jaw and chin surgery, in addition to other facial surgery such as facelifts and nose surgery.

ISHRS - International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery
ISHRS members are physicians and surgeons with a particular interest in hair restoration and scalp surgery. They come from varied medical disciplines such as dermatology, plastic surgery, general surgery, facial plastic surgery, and oculoplastic surgery.

ISRS - International Society of Refractive Surgery
ISRS members are ophthalmologist (eye doctors) that devote all or part of their practice to correction of eyesight through surgery, known as refractive surgery. Doctors that belong to the ISRS perform LASIK and vision correction surgery.
